Sometimes I’m stupid enough to subscribe to some online marketing newsletter. I got two this week from different “marketers” whose content was almost identical. They went something like this:

Want to make money off your blog?? I make $100000000 a week off my blog! Here’s How! Click here for this magic formula! Drive Traffic! Make dollars!

And of course, clicking takes you to an order page where you can shell out some hard-earned money for a PDF containing their “magic formula”.

Well I like you, dear readers, so I’m going to tell you their secrets, absolutely FREE! Here’s the trick to “monetizing your blog”:

Put up a newsletter subscription form
Write some nonsense about how much money you make off your blog, even if you don’t – this will drive traffic
Blast your users with stupid annoying emails promising them the secret to blog monetization
Put these steps 1-4 into a PDF and sell it for $30

It’s recursive!

Newspapers Unite Against IE6!

A Norwegian client just told me to stop testing their product in IE6, words I could hardly believe I was hearing. That’s because a month ago, a handful of Norway’s major newspapers and other websites posted a warning telling their IE6 readers to suck it. And since most web-wired Norwegians read those newspapers online, it seems to have worked. IE6 is hereby and forever banished from Norway.

So how ’bout it, newspapers elsewhere? New York Times, Telegraph, anybody?

Killing Trees for the Environment

Al Gore’s huge energy bills, the massive carbon footprint of the Live Earth concert, and now this from a client’s company mailing list:

To whomever is printing out the 100+ page report on Carbon and the Environment,

Please cancel your print job or watch over the printer while your report prints. I’m waiting for documents to print that I need to fax to our customers’ charge companies, and they are behind your report—which keeps jamming in the printer—in the queue.

And is it really necessary to kill tress printing out a report this long—about the environment?

This doesn’t have much to do with technology, but…LOL.
