The fruit of a year-long effort is finally up and running! Evolvist.com is a user-driven directory of sustainable and otherwise “smart” businesses and organizations. We started out with a collection of New York-based listings, but you can (and should!) nominate businesses anywhere you are! You’ll see I already started Evolvist.com Montreal simply by nominating my favorite cafe there. Start Evolvist.com L.A., Boston, or Topeka. Our search mechanism is pretty cool; you can Ajax-fully filter results by environmental criteria, neighborhood, tags etc. Oh, and you can review, bookmark, add friends and do all that good social networking jazz with other tree-hugging hippies.
This project has been my baby not only because of the sustainability facet, but also because it uses Ruby on Rails and AJAX and Google Maps API and all the other cool stuff that makes a programmer’s life worth living. Get thee to evolvist.com and check it out.
Thanks to my co-conspirators Gail (front-end developer and sister in suffering), Marvin (CEO and slave driver), Jervey (super writer and content guy) and Uri ($$$!!) for all their support and amazing creative thinking. Also check out the The Evolution, Evolvist’s official blog.
