If you’re a sysadmin, and can’t be at your computer 24 hours a day, here is how to get downtime alerts sent via SMS, for free, in 3 steps:
- Sign up at Montastic.com to have your site monitored for downtime
- Get the URL for your Montastic RSS feed
- Go to Yahoo Alerts and have that shit sent to your cell phone. No more waking up to angry emails from clients, wee!
Note: Unfortunately it seems that Yahoo only offers this service in the United States. An alternative, if you’re too cheap to get a Blackberry or an e-mail enabled phone, is to use a Montastic-only email address and then have one of these services forward the subject line to you via SMS (thanks for the tip, Jim).
